Overview

Why Use a Patch Panel?

Patch panels are widely used as an interface between a test equipment space and an associated control or measurement room which may be remote. By placing a patch panel close to the test equipment, the long permanent runs can use shielded low-noise cables protected by cable conduit — significantly reducing signal noise.

Because these permanent cables are not subject to stress or fatigue, the likelihood of damage or signal interruption is greatly reduced. It also reduces cost: only the short cables connecting sensors to the patch panel — the part of the chain most likely to suffer damage or fatigue failure — need to be replaced.

Patch panels are sometimes referred to as junction boxes. Whatever you call them, Kemo's range of interface panels is the perfect solution for low-noise signal interface. When specifying cable lengths, please discuss your application with us so we can advise on potential high-frequency signal distortion and any need for increased IEPE signal-conditioning current supply.
